How We Choose and Rate Massage Chairs

How does RightMassager choose and rate massage chairs?

We compare each chair’s published specs, manuals, warranty terms and stock status at the brand’s own store, then look for patterns in verified owner reviews. We score chairs on fit, massage coverage, room fit, warranty and price. We do not claim hands-on testing unless a review says so.

What we check for every chair

  • Fit. The user height range and maximum weight the maker publishes. Fit is the most common reason a chair disappoints, so it carries the most weight in our scores.
  • Massage coverage. Roller type (2D, 3D or 4D), track shape and length, airbags, heat, and calf and foot massage.
  • Room fit. Upright and reclined dimensions, wall clearance, chair weight and the minimum door width.
  • Warranty. How long parts, labor and in-home service are covered, and what costs extra.
  • Price and availability. The price at the brand’s own store on the day we check, given as a range with the month. A chair must be in stock to be recommended.

Where our facts come from

Specs come from the manufacturer’s product page, manual or spec sheet first. When the maker leaves a gap, we use an authorized retailer and say so in the article. Every guide ends with a list of the pages we used.

Spec sheets at this end of the market often disagree with each other. When two of a maker’s own listings give different figures, such as two different weight limits, we tell you both and score the lower one. When a spec isn’t published anywhere, we say “not published by the manufacturer” rather than guess.

How we score

Each chair gets a score out of 10, weighted like this:

What we score Weight
Published fit range and weight limit 30%
Massage coverage and mechanism 25%
Room fit and wall clearance 15%
Warranty 15%
Price 15%

Under every score we explain in one sentence what lifted it and what pulled it down.

What we don’t do

  • We have not physically tested the chairs in our buying guides. If we ever test one in person, that review will say so clearly.
  • We don’t write or quote owner reviews we haven’t read. When we mention owner feedback, it’s a pattern we saw in verified reviews on the brand’s own site or a major retailer.
  • We don’t give medical advice. A massage chair can ease muscle tension and discomfort, but it isn’t a treatment for any condition. Health guidance on our pages comes from sources such as Mayo Clinic, the NHS and the NIH.

How we make money

Some links on RightMassager are affiliate links, including Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide which chairs we recommend or how we score them. Read our full affiliate disclosure.

Keeping guides current

Prices and stock change often. We recheck the chairs in each guide when we update it, and every guide shows the date it was last updated at the top. If you spot something out of date, email us at rightmassager@gmail.com and we will check it.
