Is the HoMedics back massager with heat still available?

The HoMedics Shiatsu Pro+ cushion we originally reviewed was listed as “Currently unavailable” on Amazon in October 2026. HoMedics’ current Thera-P Deep Kneading Shiatsu Back Massager Cushion, at about $90, is its closest replacement, with three massage zones and heat. For a cheaper HoMedics option, the 3D Shiatsu pillow is about $55. If you want more features, the Snailax and COMFIER chair pads have far more reviews.

Ratings4.3 from 890

Why 8.4: sold directly by HoMedics, a sensible price, three zones and the highest average rating among HoMedics’ current cushions lifted it, while a smaller review base than rival brands and limited stock pulled it down.

This is HoMedics’ simplest full-back shiatsu cushion. Kneading nodes travel up and down the back, and you can focus them on the whole back, the upper back or the lower back. Heat is optional, and a strap holds it on an office chair, armchair or recliner. In October 2026, Amazon showed limited stock.

2. Snailax Shiatsu Back Massager Chair Pad

Price around $106 (October 2026)   Sold by Snailax, ships from Amazon

8.6/ 10 our score

Why 8.6: over 20,000 ratings, spot and zone massage, independent heat, seat vibration and removable flaps to soften the nodes lifted it, while costing a little more than the HoMedics pulled it down.

Snailax’s chair pad uses four kneading nodes shaped to follow the back. You can focus them on the full, upper or lower back, or use spot mode to stay on one sore area. Heat works independently, and the seat adds three levels of vibration for the hips and thighs. Removable flaps let you make the massage softer.

3. HoMedics 3D Shiatsu and Vibration Massage Pillow

Price around $55 (October 2026)   Sold by Amazon

8.1/ 10 our score

Check price on Amazon

Why 8.1: a low price, over 6,000 ratings, heat and vibration lifted it, while a small pillow that covers one area at a time pulled it down.

This pillow’s nodes move inward and outward as they circle, for a deeper shiatsu feel. Optional heat and vibration add warmth and a gentler buzz. You hold it against your lower back, upper back, neck or shoulders with the built-in controls on the side.

4. COMFIER Shiatsu Neck and Back Massager Chair Pad

Price around $213 (October 2026)   Sold by COMFIER, ships from Amazon

8.2/ 10 our score

Check price on Amazon

Why 8.2: neck nodes that adjust for height, rolling and spot modes, heat and air compression for the waist and hips lifted it, while a price twice the Snailax’s pulled it down.

COMFIER’s chair pad adds a separate set of four neck nodes, which you can move to suit your height, to the four back nodes. Rolling mode stretches along the spine, spot mode focuses on one area, and air cushions squeeze the waist and hips at three levels.

What happened to the HoMedics Shiatsu Pro+?

Our original review covered the HoMedics Shiatsu Pro+ cordless massage cushion with heat and a programmed controller. In October 2026 its Amazon listing said “Currently unavailable”, with no date for a restock. HoMedics’ current range on Amazon includes the Thera-P Deep Kneading cushion above, a $130 deep-kneading cushion with a 4.1 average from 240 ratings, and a $261 neck and back cushion with a 3.9 average from 437 ratings. On ratings, the Thera-P cushion is the best of the current HoMedics cushions.

How to choose a back massager cushion

  1. Pick the coverageA cushion with zones covers the whole back. A pillow targets one spot at a time.
  2. Look for spot modeBeing able to keep the nodes on one area helps with a stubborn knot.
  3. Check for softening flapsRemovable covers make deep shiatsu bearable on sensitive backs.
  4. Decide on extrasNeck nodes, seat vibration and hip compression cost more. Decide which you’ll actually use.
  5. Check it fits your chairA strap that fits office chairs and recliners makes daily use easier.

Does a heated back massager help back pain?

For short-term (acute or subacute) low back pain, the American College of Physicians recommends trying non-drug treatments first, including superficial heat and massage. A heated shiatsu cushion combines both. For long-lasting back pain, the ACP and the UK’s NICE put exercise at the centre of treatment, so use a massager alongside staying active, not instead of it. Read more in our guide to the best massage for lower back pain.

How to use a back massager safely

  • Keep sessions to about 15 minutes, and don’t fall asleep with it running.
  • Use a softening cover or flap if the nodes feel too hard.
  • Keep the nodes off the spine itself if it feels bony or sore.
  • Turn off the heat if your skin gets hot or red.

See a doctor instead if…

Your back pain follows a fall or injury, comes with numbness in the groin or buttocks, problems peeing or controlling your bowels, weakness or numbness in the legs, fever, or unexplained weight loss. These need urgent medical attention. Also check with a doctor before using a heated massager if you’re pregnant, have osteoporosis or have had recent back surgery.

How we chose these back massagers

We haven’t physically tested these massagers. In October 2026 we checked the availability of the HoMedics model from our original review, then compared current HoMedics cushions and leading alternatives on Amazon by features, price, seller and the volume and average of owner ratings. See how we test.
